Laptop versus Desktop for Online Poker
I have played online poker on both a laptop and a desktop computer, both mac and pc. I’ve got to say, playing on a laptop is less stressful, but both have their upsides.
I remember the days of rushing to the bathroom only to hear my computer beeping in warning of folding my hole cards. I remember sitting in my computer chair for hours on end waiting for my little five minute breaks. These things are non-issues with a laptop computer. I can take my computer with me to the bathroom to play online poker, no matter how uncouth that sounds. I can sit on my couch in front of the television and watch the news. I can go to starbucks or a bookstore and take a break from my work with a quick turbo sit n go. The freedom associated with laptop computers is incomparable.
That being said, playing poker on my desktop is sometimes more profitable. Sitting at my desk in my computer chair makes me feel like I’m at work. I have very little to distract me and I pay attention to my games more. Instead of just paying attention to the hands I play, I’m likely paying attention to every hand. When I’m on my laptop watching TV, I’m probably missing a lot of details that I could be using to my advantage.
But sometimes, distractions are a good thing. By paying too close attention, I’m also likely to play more hands and try to outplay my opponents more often than if I were watching TV or browsing the internet. Poker is a game of patience, and sometimes, it’s ok to interject some distractions to help you play more patiently.
For me, a laptop works best.
